Mural Program

The Streetscape Program, originally administered by Main Street DeKalb, Inc., identified and planned early on for the addition of murals to Downtown DeKalb.  Through the Streetscape committee, a sub-committee was created in February of 2005, dedicated to designing a mural program to make the vision for murals in our downtown a reality.  The Streetscape Mural Program was created as a part of the TIF funded Streetscape Program for the City of DeKalb.  This program received approval in August of 2005 by the DeKalb City Council.

The Mural committee goals include beautifying the downtown and bringing increased art and culture to the downtown in celebration of our unique community and its rich history.  Committee members began work creating the program in February of 2005. They researched other community mural programs, sought public input for themes, scouted locations, researched materials, created legal agreements with the assistance of the city, drafted and distributed the prospectus for the Sesquicentennial mural, and reviewed submission.

Currently, the program has administered the creation and installation of two murals and under the direction of Re:New DeKalb , Inc. and is preparing for a third mural dedicated to honoring parks and recreation.
